๐Manners of the student of Knowledge๐
๐ 1- That he intends by his knowledge, the face of Allaah:
Whoever wants to seek knowledge, then he should be sincere in it , because knowledge is worship (ibaadah), and worship is not accepted except with sincerity (ikhlaas).
๐นAllaah The most High says -: {And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allaah, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him), and perform As-Salat and give Zakat, and that is the right religion.} [Al-Bayyinah:5]
๐นAllaah The most High says -: {And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allaah, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him), and perform As-Salat and give Zakat, and that is the right religion.} [Al-Bayyinah:5]
๐ธIt is related Bukari and Muslim, on the Authority of Umar ibn Al-Khattaab -ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู- who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- saying: “The rewards of deeds depend upon the intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. Thus he whose migration was for Allaah and His Messenger, his migration was for Allaah and His Messenger, and he whose migration was to achieve some wordy benefit or to take some woman in marriage , his migration was for that for which he migrated.”
๐ธMuslim Narrates on the authority of Abu Hurairah- ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู- that he said, I heard the Messenger of Allah -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- say: “Verily, the first to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who had died as a martyr(Shaheed). He will be brought forward.
Allah will remind him of the favours He had bestowed upon him and the man will acknowledge them. Then He will ask him:
`What did you do to express gratitude for it?’
The man will reply: `I fought for Your Cause till I was martyred.’
Allah will say:
`You have lied. You fought so that people might call you courageous; and they have done so.’
Command will then be issued about him and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.
Next a man who had acquired knowledge, taught it and read the Qur’an, will be brought forward, Allah will remind him of the favours He had bestowed upon him and the man will acknowledge them.
Then He will ask him:
Then He will ask him:
`What did you do to express gratitude for it?’
The man will reply: `I acquired knowledge and taught it, and read the Qur’an for Your sake.’
The man will reply: `I acquired knowledge and taught it, and read the Qur’an for Your sake.’
Allah will say to him:
`You have lied. You acquired knowledge so that people might call you a learned (man), and you read the Qur’an so that they might call you a reciter, and they have done so.’
Command will then be issued about him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.
`You have lied. You acquired knowledge so that people might call you a learned (man), and you read the Qur’an so that they might call you a reciter, and they have done so.’
Command will then be issued about him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.
Next a man whom Allah had made affluent and to whom Allah had given plenty of wealth, will be brought forward, Allah will remind him of the favours He had bestowed upon him and the man will acknowledge them.
He will ask him:
`What did you do to express gratitude for it?’
The man will reply: `I did not neglect any of the ways You liked wealth to be spent, except that i spent it freely for Your sake’.
`What did you do to express gratitude for it?’
The man will reply: `I did not neglect any of the ways You liked wealth to be spent, except that i spent it freely for Your sake’.
Allah will say to him:
`You have lied. You did it so that people might call you generous, and they have done so.’
Command will then be issued about him and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.”
`You have lied. You did it so that people might call you generous, and they have done so.’
Command will then be issued about him and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.”
๐ฆAnd from sincerity is to intend by seeking knowledge:
๐งThat you remove ignorance from yourself.
๐งThat you worship Allaah with guidance.
๐งThat you become closer to Allaah by seeking knowledge, because knowledge is Jihaad.
๐งTo devote yourself to Allaah with seeking knowledge, as learning and teaching it is Worship.
๐งThat you increase your fear in Allaah (Khashya) by it, Allaah says: {It is only thise who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is All-Mighty, Oft-Forgiving.} [Faatir:28]
๐งThat you are raised in level with Allaah by seeking Knowledge. {Allah will raise up, to (suitable) ranks and (degrees), those of you who believe and who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is well-acquainted with all you do.}
[Al-Mujadalah 58:11]

[Al-Mujadalah 58:11]
๐And the knowledge seeker should beware of intending to seek knowledge to get something from this worldly life (Dunya).
๐ธAbu Dawud has related- with a good chain- on the Authority of Abu Hurairah-ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู- he said, that the Messenger of Allah -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- said: “Whoever seeks knowledge that should be sought seeking the Face of Allah, but he only seeks it for the sake of some worldly gain, he will not smell the fragrance of Paradise on the Day of Ressurrection.”
๐2- Travelling to seek knowledge:
The knowledge seeker must work hard in attaining knowledge, and divide his time between attending the classes, memorizing, revising and looking over previous lessons, and if he hears of a scholar from Ahl-us-Sunnah teaching, he should travel to learn from him.
๐ธAs this great companion, Jaabir ibn Abdillaah,- ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู- travelled the lenght of one whole month to attain one single Hadith; Imam Ahmad relates in his Musnad, and Al-Albaani grades it as fair (hasan), on the Authority of Abdullaah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, that he heard Jabir bin Abdillaah say:
I was informed about a man who knows a Hadith (narration) that he heard from Allah’s Messenger -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู - , So I bought a camel and tied the saddle upon it and traveled to him for one month until I reached him in Syria (Shaam), and he was Abdullah bin Unais. I told the guard: “Tell him Jabir is at the door.” The guard said: “Ibn ’Abdullah (the son of Abdullah)?” I said: “Yes.”

I told the guard: “Tell him Jabir is at the door.” The guard said: “Ibn ’Abdullah (the son of Abdullah)?” I said: “Yes.”
He came out in haste, dragging his garment and embraced me and I embraced him and told him: “I heard that you know a narration that you have heard from Allaah’s Messenger -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- in al-Qisas (the legal retribution or the law of equality and punishment) and I was afraid for you or me to die before I could hear it.” The man said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- saying, ‘The people will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection naked, uncircumcised and Buhman.’” I said: “What is Buhman?” He replied: “Nothing is with them. Then He (Allaah) will call them with a sound that all those who are far can hear, as well as those who are near, ‘I am the King, I am the Dayyaan, there is no one from the people of Hell that will enter the Hell-Fire and he has a right with one of the people of Paradise until I set off his right. And there is no one from among the people of Paradise that will enter Paradise and he owes a right to one of the people of Hell, until I set off his right, even if it was a slap (on the face).’”
We said: “How would that be, while we come unto Allah naked, uncircumcised and having nothing with us?
He ,-ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู - said: “By the good and evil deeds.”
He ,-ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู - said: “By the good and evil deeds.”
๐3- Not to be full.
The seeker of knowledge must be careful in his food, he shouldnt eat till his fill, because eating too much makes the body heavy, lessens the understanding and spoils the brain.
The seeker of knowledge must be careful in his food, he shouldnt eat till his fill, because eating too much makes the body heavy, lessens the understanding and spoils the brain.
๐ธAt-Tirmidhi relates and says its a fair and correct Hadith (Hasan Saheeh),
on The Authority of Al-Miqdaam bin Ma’diyakrib,-ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู- that he said, i heard the Messenger of Allah-ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู - say:
“The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is enough for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls to keep him going, but if he must (fill his stomach), then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for air.”

๐Sahnoon says: Knowledge is not befitting for some who eats to his fill.
๐4- The manners of the student with his teacher:
๐a- It is upon the Knowledge seeker to counsel Allaah (Make Istikhaarah) about who he takes his knowledge from.
Because the religious knowledge is that which shape your Aqeedah and manners, and guides you to the way of reaching to Allaah.
Because the religious knowledge is that which shape your Aqeedah and manners, and guides you to the way of reaching to Allaah.
๐ธImam Muslim relates from Muhammad Ibn Seereen- ุฑุญู
ู ุงููู- that he said: “Verily this knowledge is religion, so look to whom you take your religion from”.
๐b- That he humbles himself for his teacher, as Imam Ahmad has narrated in his Musnad, and others, and Al-Albani has graded it as fair,
On the Authority of Ubadah ibn As-Saamit -ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู-, that the Messenger of Allah, -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู – said, “He is not from my nation who does not honor our elders, nor have mercy on our young ones, nor recognize the rights of our scholars.”
Ibn Al-Qayyim -ุฑุญู
ู ุงููู- ( as in his book named Al-Kalim At-Tayyib) said on this hadith: ” So respecting the scholars and taking care of their rights is success and guidance,
And abandoning that is betrayal, disobediance and loss”.
And abandoning that is betrayal, disobediance and loss”.
And Al-Imaam As-Safaariniy-ุฑุญู
ู ุงููู- said: “It is a must to respect the teacher -who is the Shaykh- ,honour him and act humble to him, and the speech of the scholars regarding that is known”.
๐c- That he is patient regarding coldness from his Shaykh/teacher or any bad manners, and that should not stop him from staying with him, instead he should start apologizing to his Shaykh when he acts or speaks coldly, as that is better for the student and the Shaykh will love him more.
๐d- That he sits in front of the Shaykh in a well-mannered way, and pays attention to him, and to converse with him in a good way, and not to race to explain a question or answer before the teacher, and not to interrupt his teacher’s speech, and to choose the best of mannerisms while in front of his teacher.
๐e- That he doesnt argue with his Shaykh, As its related in Bukhari and Muslim, on the Authority of Abu Hurairah- ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู- , that the Prophet -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- said:
” Verily the nations before you where only destroyed due to their excessive questioning, and their disagreeing with their Prophets, so if i forbid you to do something then avoid it, and if i order you to do something, then do as much of it as you can”.
” Verily the nations before you where only destroyed due to their excessive questioning, and their disagreeing with their Prophets, so if i forbid you to do something then avoid it, and if i order you to do something, then do as much of it as you can”.
๐5- Manners of the student in his lessons:
✏️a- That he starts with the Honourable book Of Allaah, and perfects his memorization of it, as it’s the foundation of all sciences.
✏️b- That he doesn’t busy himself in the beginning, with issues that the scholars differ about, as it confuses the mind.
✏️c- That he corrects what he reads before he memorizes it, a perfect correction, either by his teacher, or by anyone else from the people of knowledge (Ahl-al-ilm), then memorize after it’s been corrected.
✏️d- That he sticks to his teacher when he’s teaching, and in all of his sittings if its possible, as it only increases him in good and attains him more knowledge.
✏️e- That he’s polite with those who attend the sittings of knowledge, as it’s good manners with his teacher and respecting his sitting.
✏️f- That he doesn’t shy away from asking what he’s uncertain about, and that he trys to understand with kindness and converses politely.
๐6- Manners of the student in himself:
๐นa- That he purifies his heart, so that by doing so it will be able to accept knowledge and memorize it.
And that he seeks knowledge, intending by it the face of Allaah -ุชุนุงูู-, acting upon it, renewing the islamic laws (Shari’ah), and that he doesnt intend by it (seeking knowlede) the matters of this world (dunya);
Because knowledge is worship (ibadah), so if the intention of it is sincere, it will be accepted and its blessings (barakah) will grow.
And if it’s intended by seeking knowledge, other than the face of Allaah -ุนุฒ ูุฌู- then what he did was a great loss and of no use;
Because knowledge is worship (ibadah), so if the intention of it is sincere, it will be accepted and its blessings (barakah) will grow.
And if it’s intended by seeking knowledge, other than the face of Allaah -ุนุฒ ูุฌู- then what he did was a great loss and of no use;
๐ธAbu Dawud has related- and Al-Albaani has made correct (Sahih)- on the Authority of Abu Hurairah-ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู- he said, that the Messenger of Allah -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- said: “Whoever seeks knowledge that should be sought seeking the Face of Allah, but he only seeks it for the sake of some worldly gain, he will not smell the fragrance of Paradise on the Day of Ressurrection.”
๐นb- That he utilizes his youth, and his lifetime in learning, and that he is satisfied with whatever sustenance is available, even if it’s little, and with clothes that are enough to cover him.
๐นc- That he divides the times of his day and night, and benefits from it.
๐นd- That he lessens his sleep as long as he’s not affected by that in his body or mind, and there’s nothing wrong with relaxing himself, his heart, and his mind if he became exhausted or weak.
And that he’s pious in all his matters, and that he looks for the Lawful (Halaal) in his food, drink, clothing, and living place.
And that he’s pious in all his matters, and that he looks for the Lawful (Halaal) in his food, drink, clothing, and living place.
๐7- That he’s sure when giving Fatwa.
The seeker of knowledge must know, that the religious verdict (Fatwa) is a great responsibility, so he must avoid it as much as he can.
๐ธAbu Dawud has related -with a chain that Al-Albaani graded as fair (hasan)- on the Authority of Abu Hurairah -ุฑุถู ุงููู ุนูู-, he said, the Prophet -ุตูู ุงููู ุนููู ูุณูู
- said: “whoever gave a fatwa without knowledge, then the sin of it is upon he who gave the fatwa, and whoever told his brother of a matter knowing that the right guidance is in other than it, then he has betrayed him”.
๐8- Staying far from sins:
๐นAllaah, The most High, says:
{So be afraid of Allaah; and Allaah teaches you. And Allaah is the All-Knower of everything} [Al-Baqarah: 282]
{So be afraid of Allaah; and Allaah teaches you. And Allaah is the All-Knower of everything} [Al-Baqarah: 282]
๐นAnd He The most Great, says:
: {O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allaah, He will grant you Furqaan [(a criterion to judge between right and wrong), or (Makhraj, i.e. A way for you to get out from every difficulty)], and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you; and Allaah is the Owner of the Great Bounty.} [Al-Anfaal:29]
